We had the best hitting team in history. And one very good pitcher. We faced a good hitting team with two outstanding pitchers. Our pitcher kept us in the game for something like 150 pitches. Our hitters did their thing against great pitchers, but softball has this crazy rule where players can reenter the game. So when we would get at, or start to get at, one of their great pitchers, they’d bring in the other. You kind of get 4 great pitchers for the price of two, and the benefit of stopping the momentum while the new old pitcher warms up. Eventually our one very good pitcher ran out of gas against their “four” outstanding pitchers. That’s why we didn’t win the wcws. Only a team with two outstanding pitchers could keep an enough of a lid on us to keep counter punching until our very good pitcher got to 150 or so pitches.
