in a balanced floor. I played that way and I coached that way. I think there should always be a man on top. If a shot goes up the top man stays on top. If the top is empty then someone needs to always drift to the middle on high. If someone starts to leak out down court the man on top needs to also drift back never letting that guy get behind him. If a missed shot is rebounded and possession is retained then the man on top needs to be careful to not completely abandon the man down court, but also needs to be alert to get back into the offense if needed. The rule I tried to live by is always keep the floor well spaced and balanced.
