It's relating to a BIG team that will visit Pauley on Jan 21.
Wisconsin, a team that recently put 103 points on #9 rated Arizona. Last night, they barely squeaked by underdog UT-RGV 87 to 84. The strange stat is that RGV outscored Wisconsin from the field 75 to 60. RGV is a 3 point shooting team and hit 13 of 33 from out there. But it was at the free throw line that Wisc took them down. Wisc made 27 of 33 free throws (top FT shooting team in the country) while FGV only managed 9 of 11. This follows up on Wisc's 41 of 47 FT performance against AZ. John Tonje followed up his 21 for 22 ft performance against AZ with 10 for 10 against FGV.
So when the Bruins play Wisconsin, one of the primary things the Bruins must focus on is "don't foul".
One more unusual thing I saw last night in the Michigan game (Mich visits Pauley on Jan 4). This big 7 footer (Wolf) dribbling around out front like a guard (he's pretty good at that for as big as he is but still turns the ball over with risky passes a lot) gets a high post screen from another 7 footer (Golden). They run the pick and roll play perfectly (two 7 footers) as Wolf drives then stops and throws a lob pass to the rolling Golden who grabs it and does a thunder slam dunk. Don't see that often in college ball with two 7 footers. Michigan is looking pretty good.
I expect the Bruin players to be more in tune (as a team) with each other come January and ready for the tough BIG conference games they have coming up. Looking forward to it.
