Did Michigan score 94 points against us because they have some superior "offensive system" or because they have two skilled 7-footers and two other deadly 3-point shooters?
Did Donaldson need any "offensive system" to throw in multiple 25-footers? Long 3-point shots will be open in any offense. Does UCLA have anyone who can consistently make them? Bilodeau leads the team with 1.2 made per game.
Michigan turns the ball over the 23rd most times per game in the nation. Is that the fault of their "offensive system"? If it's so bad, how are they averaging the 13th most points a game in the nation? UCLA's turnovers against Maryland were due to sloppy play with many unforced, others where the opponents just took the ball away from them, not their offensive system.
UCLA is 261st in the nation in FT%. That has nothing to do with any offensive system.
Watch any game and good teams score because they have players who can create their own shot or have someone who can create shots for them and not always because their offense gets them open. Good offensive players will score in any system. UCLA has one, Bilodeau. No offense magically gets open shots for players on every possession and even if they do, players have to make them.
One might fault Cronin for giving more minutes to the better defensive players over his better offensive players, but this team can't just outscore the opponents. Scoring more but giving up more points is a zero sum game. With the lack of skilled offensive plyers, defense is our best bet to win and that has been the case for most of this season.
Why are some of you ignoring the fact that Cronin had one of the most efficient offenses in the country for three consecutive seasons? Could it be that he had several players now in the NBA? How many on this roster will play in the league? Did you say maybe one? You can blame Cronin all you want and while not the greatest offensive coach, the problems run much deeper than some offensive sets.
