adjustments to be made with new backgrouind relating to depth perception, crowd noise and distractions, adjusting to a new offensive and defensive system, all things mental that can cause confidence to be lost. And perhaps, the new coach sees something in the player's mechanics he wants him to change and that often will set him back a bit. Those are a few things that may be different from a player's comfortable HS environment that can have an affect, for a undefined time, on a college freshman's performance.

Overall though, if a player is an excellent FT shooter in HS with good mechanics, it's mostly a confidence/mental adjustment thing related to the new environment and some adjust quicker than others. But if the youngster has a good mind, strong work ethic, and the ability to focus well in pressure situations, he should eventually get back to that HS level and even higher.
