Important to keep in mind that these early games are
home games (unlike in the men's tournament) - therefore,
home town energy. Let's see what happens when games
go to neutral sites.
But you are right: It does seem like there are more superior
women's teams than in the past. UConn, South Carolina,
Notre Dame, and usc are all terrific. I haven't watched Texas.
As a pessimist, I always see a Bad Moon Rising, imagining
errant passes, and Jones shooting from 3 with no one
underneath. But the Bruins home-and-road record speaks
for itself.
I just watched a replay of the final 1:44 of No. 1 Purdue
(men's) loss to Fairleigh Who Dickinson. Things "happen"
in he tournament that "shouldn't" - makes it fun.
