When the ball comes down, players have to go after it like it's the last pork chop on the plate. And they have to be focused to the point that if they can reach it, they clamp on the ball with their fingers like a vice and don't bring it down to waste high where an opponent can slap it away. Without that mental approach, rebounding will be a problem for most.
One thing I've always noticed about very good rebounders is that they seem to have a "sixth sense" as to where the ball will bounce off of the rim and they get to that spot quickly.
