within 1/2 mile of my home as I'm about 4 miles out of Aztec, and on a county road that turns off of 550 and goes up a fairly steep hill about 1/2 mile to my 3 acre home site. It's basically a rural area with a lot of hilly areas and great views from my back deck of the San Juan and La Plata mountain ranges.
By the way, I don't know when you were last here in this area but about 10 miles after crossing the NM border into Colorado, US-550 is now 4 lanes the last 15 or so miles into the Durango area. In addition, that steep, curvy downhill drive that previously took you into Durango is no longer there. The new highway bends to the East as it nears Durango and continues a short distance (3-4 miles) and merges East into US-160 or has the option to cross over 160 and head West. That huge project was completed towards the end of last year. Much safer and much easier/quicker to get into the city of Durango or the Durango airport.
