At one time last night while watching a Big 10 game, the analyst said the Big 10 thus far was 51 and 1 in home games and something like 64-4 overall. Big 10 road games have always been tough and I believe it will remain that way in most venues this year with most being packed with screaming fans for each game---other than maybe Pauley. That's why I believe you see so many upsets in the Big 10 where the bottom dwellers sometimes knock off teams near the top. Very few "gimmie" games in that league.
In my 92 years on this earth (hit 92 this Sunday--hope it doesn't hit back)I have watched every Bruin game televised since 1960. Growing up in Big 10 country (Illinois) and with my wife of 68 years whose school is Michigan, wife and I watch all of Michigan's games and I also watch every big 10 game that I can.
From my distant vantage point, it seems like Pauley is only full (or close to it) when the very top teams come in. But with other Big 10 teams and based on all of the Big 10 games I have watched, most arenas seem to be packed for every game regardless of who the opponent is. Those packed arenas of screaming home team fans seemingly are one of the significant factors that make road games so tough in the BIG 10.
