Despite UCLA's attempted collapse after they led by the Torvik predicted 16 points with less than 6 minutes left to play, tOSU never led and never had more than a 10.8% probability of winning the game. Even their furious 4th quarter comeback attempt resulted in nothing more than a 19-19 tie over the last 10 minutes.
The Bruins outrebounded the Buckeyes 47-32 and had 35(!) second chance points. And despite their poor shooting, 45.2% from the field and 31.8% from three, UCLA outshot tOSU, 43.8% from the field and 23.3% from three.
And while the Buckeyes and the Bruins' rust combined for 16 turnovers, tOSU managed only 11 points off turnovers, while UCLA scored 13 on the Buckeyes 12 TOs.
I do have to give Jaloni Cambridge credit. Her 28 points were exceptional, especially because Lauren Betts controlled the space under the basket with 4 blocks.
Even though the game got too interesting for most of us during the last two minutes, when the Buckeyes closed within 6 while the Bruins tried to run out the clock, before that, tOSU never showed the sustained ability to compete with UCLA, as I suggested earlier.
Hopefully, what we saw was just as much the result of a 7-day layoff and only 3 games in 3 weeks, 2 of which were barely scrimmages, as anything tOSU was able to do.
