is a discipline all to itself. It took me quite a few years to learn how to prepare myself for a game. It's just as difficult, if not more, than physical preparation. And positive visualization is crucial. Absolutely! As a player and then as a coach I would also insist that during warmups they take shots that they will probably take during the game. Get loose, break a sweat, rehearse game situations, and all through this keep visualizing successful execution and carry all that right into the game. I would tell my players that the way they practiced and prepared is the way they are going to play. Once the opening tip off is there the body and muscle memory, along with your preparation takes over. Play as hard as you can for as long as you can and leave it all on the court. After the game if your completely spent then you probably did everything the way you should have, hopefully with a victory.
