I believe Cronin's offense is fine. It's designed to get good looks. The right guys seem to be taking most of the shots. I think this offense passes the "eye test." The one place I may take exception to is how Dent is being used. IMO the offense should be built around him. Going to ball screens in the second half was the absolutely right thing to so and it worked.
Give Dent the ball and structure everything around that. Moving forward I hope Cronin continues to use that scheme. I thought last year he should have built his offense around Mara. I understand that there were some potential pitfalls in that strategy. But if he had implemented that scheme early enough in the year the team may have had a chance to learn how to play that way and perhaps they would have ended up more successful.
If that had happened there may have been a good chance that Mara would have returned. Then the challenge for Cronin would have been to try and incorporate Dent and his need to have the ball in his hands and penetrating while also utilizing Mara's inside presence. I think the one thing that may be holding Cronin back from elevating himself, as a coach, to the next level of accomplishment is his slowness, or perhaps unwillingness, in adapting and changing to the situation in front of him.
