Are you talking about offensive boards, defensive boards or both? Seems to me there is some merit to having someone hang back on offensive boards since it can help slow down break aways (as you point out) but I don’t see the same need for defensive boards. CMC spends a lot of time on having our bigs block out on the D end that leaves a lot of room for our guards to grab the boards (which they often do).
A different issue I have with our bigs (maybe it is the guards also) is that they seem to have never met a good out-let pass they liked. Think of Walton, K.Love and even Gig Sims .. “get the ball and fire it to the half court line where the guard is waiting … pick up the pace.” Of course, you need good rebounders to feel free cutting a guard lose … which we don’t have … oh well maybe next year….;-)…
