Because the labor market had spoken: no high quality HS player wanted to play for him. He was DOA when it came to recruiting.
Coaching is a tough biz. A lot depends on perception. And if the perception isn't really, really positive...then it's negative. And negative is a losing proposition.
that's why coaches get these huge buyouts in their contract--to compensate them for the risk associated with irrational fan and player populations.
