I think this post is a little disingenuous and doesn't give enough acknowledgment of UCLA's CURRENT appeal. While it's true that we haven't been among the elites for a long while, we have still produced countless NBA players over the years and have done okay in the NCAA tournament. UCLA will always be an attractive option.
The problem is that you need a coach who guys are excited to be around and play for. If you think Cronin is that guy, you're delusional. He does not connect with his players in the way that better coaches do. It's just one of his shortcomings. He may have a good head for basketball, but that only takes you so far as a coach. It's why in over two decades of coaching, he's posted a very average record. UCLA can do better and deserves better. Under Cronin, this isn't the program that Wooden built. It's become something else, something less distinguished, something ordinary. Something unremarkable. It's not a path we should continue down, and it's the only one Cronin knows.
