I’m trying to pencil out what a rotation would look like. To me, 28 mpg is a good average through the course of a season. You can push that up, a couple of our players averaged 30. But 30 is risky.
I think it’s most likely that Muse gives us about 15 minutes/game. Ii can’t see her contributing as a 4. So in theory, Betts and Muse split the center spot. That leaves the 3 and 4. 80 minutes. Let’s say Timea averages 28 minutes. That leaves 52 minutes to fill. In positions 3 and 4. So the 3 slides to 4 for 12 of her 28 minutes. Leaves her 16 minutes to play as a 3. That leaves 24 minutes that need to be filled at the 3. The obvious candidates are Brown and Bilic. They are both going to be needed for the front court rotation, unless we want to have Brown or Bilic at the 2, and one of Deas,Hunter,Karanouzi, or Okafor defending the opposing 3. To me makes more sense to have Brown/Bilic on a 3 than a smaller
Bilic shoots 27% on 3’s.
Statwise Browns 3pt shooting from her Fr year to Last year has been 38.8, 36.2, 33.8. Her worst season is almost 7% better than Bilic. Interestingly her number of 3 pt shot dropped by about the same ratio over the three years. They must have been getting her a lot of open looks her freshman season. Brown also averaged 5.3 asst to 2 Turners last season. If we had the option to play Brown or Bilic at the 2, I’d go with Brown. But I also think both will be needed in the 3/4 rotation. Maybe Muse plays a lot more minutes, or maybe CCC has Timea and Sienna playing 30+ minutes. That would change my projections a little but not a lot. Best thing would be if Muse could play 20+ minutes and Sienna and Muse can play together some. That soaks up the minutes needed to rest Timea. Then you’re down to which of Brown or Bilic starts at 3, w the other playing covering her rest minutes (10-12 minutes at 3.
Also, re Timea, i think she’s a better inside player than she’s been given credit for. Her last season at OSU she shot right at 50% on 2’s and averaged 7 rpg. Coming into last season there was talk of a new Timea, more athletic. I think that she and Sienna will be a great 1-2 ouch down low for us. And Timea could play some minutes at center if Muse hasn’t progressed. The thing is, on paper, Timea will be our best 3pt shooter. Unless Brown regains her form. Then they’d be about even.
