Strictly speaking, the WCO just prioritizes the short passing game...

over running the ball. It does not inherently have to be complicated in terms of reads, terminology, or play-calling.

I think today's young football players are more sophisticated than those of 20 years ago, and are used to running more complicated offenses and defenses even at the high school level than were common when Dorrell coached the Bruins.

For instance, I recall Jake Bobo said Chip Kelly's pass routes were the most complex he'd ever seen, with multiple reads and options at different points, but that didn't prevent Bobo from being successful, or the Bruins' offense from putting up top of D1 numbers most years under Chip (although it may have hindered other highly ranked receivers who didn't seem to reach their potential, and may have contributed to last season's dip in production, when a lot of the offense turned over).

Interestingly, since Bieniemy is from Andy Reed's coaching tree, the Chiefs run a hybrid pro/college offense that some consider more college than pro, with plays that are simple to execute yet appear complicated to defenders, and every play setting up future plays (a hallmark of Homer Smith's offenses, and Bob Toledo's), and challenging linebackers in the passing game a key feature.

The only reference to the WCO under the new regime that I've seen is a recent video comment from CDF that was pretty vague and included a comment that he planned to "run the rock," which isn't a WCO staple, so who knows.

I think it's too early to make assumptions or get worried, although that's what the internet is for. We should get a better idea when the Spring game returns (we can thank CDF for that at least).
