My feeling from watching over the years - a lot of years - the West Coast Offense is a terrific offense and forms the foundation for many, many offenses. But i always felt it was problematic at the college level where you are having to start over with a new QB and new receivers so often - every four years at the very most. Karl Dorrell came in and tried to import the WCO at his alma mater - didn't fly so well. Seemed to me like you get an awful year, then a year with a bit of hope, then a pretty decent year and then a terrific year - one year - and then you get to start all over again in the cycle.

Eric B coming in as our new OC and he is bringing the WCO. He played for Andy Reid after all. (Yeah, but Reid has Mahomes as his QB and Mahomes returns year after year after year.)

My question is how much has the basics of this approach changed over the years, at least since Dorrell (who wasn't the. very best individual example anyway):?

Garbers ought to be able to pick it up and do okay next year and probably pretty well the year after next but is today's WCO hopefully different than it was back in the day? It was a great offense for Bill Welsh in the NFL but so many schools today are going in a slightly different direction with run-and-shoot and other schemes.

Anyone care to address this concern? (and yes I know we won't know exactly what EB and DSF mean when they say "West Coast Offense" until we actually get to see what their version looks like, but just wondering about it)
