Good point. I accept that premise. But given the need for wins, the question remains, how best to get there? Treading water or building brick by brick?

We have chosen treading water. That is demonstrably a failure.

So, the consistent approach should be used, even in LA. Zero need for hype in the city of hype.

Ucla is attractive enough geographically, and its brand is strong enough to keep a baseline of talent coming in regardless of coaching personnel. The challenge is rising above baseline.

We can only rise above baseline once the program becomes a consensus CFB destination. See for example, the SEC. See also Oregon due to its consistent, significant financial sponsor. When you keep treading water, you destabilize your revenues, diminish your brand, knocking yourself backward again.

Stay the course. Whatever might befall Foster in 2025 and beyond, Ucla should just grind forward with him. Turn him into an icon, build an unshakable edifice around him and his program. Make donors and fans more consistent backers. Get a chancellor who can spell "football" and who is visible in his/her support. Get an AD who helps in recruiting, going to bat for marginal qualifiers if needed, one who roams the sideline, one who is a visible and energetic and unapologetic proponent for football, maybe even occasionally at the expense of the Olympic sports. Put shoulders to wheels.

We need a new modality here. Our f'd up media sources are a good place to start IMO, because they influence idle minds. Let's influence them in a better way.
