Unless your involvement was directly with Chip and Ucla you wouldn't know much about their budget. So, you're close to the industry but not inside the Chip/Ucla dynamic. This means, you opinion of Chip and his behavior was written out for you in the public press and you agree with it. You and it may be correct, but it doesn't fit Chip's pattern and it doesn't satisfy all the conditions of a reasonable answer.
Deciding that Chip suddenly changed his life to become a lazy sloth just because he's morally deficient is a preposterous notion. It could be true, stranger things have happened as we know, but it doesn't fit well with base reality.
You don't know what Chip's alleged "‘No, we can’t offer him right now.’" means. You have no context for assessing that statement, so you accept the negative context Biggins provides, the Chip is lazy context. It's far more likely Chip had no money left for JV players.
You and BZ generally take it as your own, original opinion. But you have no idea what that statement means or if it's even true or was even said at all. Biggins just put that in your head.
When Chip was denied in December 2023, he did exactly as you suggest once he was notified that he would be hindered by money. He began looking for a new home. He had asked for a renewal and more money and this was denied. He got fired the government bureaucracy way that Ucla is so comfortable with.
It seemed as though he was going to stay until Ryan Day offered him.
