over Mike Riley. Somewhere out there is an alternate universe where Riley came in, stabilized the program, and stunted some of the Pete Carroll success. Where UCLA maintained a serious brand in football for a decade.

This isn't like the speculation with Bellotti, Jonathan Smith, or Jed the Fisch. Riley was ready to come. He was not a world beater but in his day he was a competent coach who aligned with UCLA's values and knew the conference and recruiting landscapes. He's the guy who stole Brandin Cooks from us.
