How it started.
Bruin Greg: (paraphrasing) Biggins says there's reason to be optimistic about recruiting.
Confused: We heard this under Dorrell
Me: I'd wager CKD recruited much better than we have been, of late (incontrovertible - even TJJ and Rubix admit that) recruiting wasn't Dorrell's problem, per my recollection.
Dorrell averaged the 27th ranked class in his first three years. What has UCLA's average end of the season ranking been, and how long do you want to go back? To the Clinton administration? It's probably around 27th.
TJJ has compiled a list of my quotes on the topic: ""You said he recruited "pretty well". You said that if DF could recruit at the level of KD you'd be "quite happy". You said KD started off recruiting "awesomely" and that he brought in "a ton of talent" early on. You then repeated "a ton". You referred to a lot of his recruits as "damned good" or "great".
Yes, if Foster recruited on average, the 27th best class, I'd be quite happy. No one on the board seems to think he's capable of that. TJJ certainly doesn't. TJJ, you wouldn't be "quite happy" with 27th ranked classes? Get your story straight.
KD started off "awesomely." Awesomely, probably an overstatement given the Bro rankings. I thought classes that had Drew, Harwell, Hickman, Davis (something like #2 or #3 all time sacks for UCLA), Paulson, Horton, Carter, Verner, Slater, Brown, Keyes, Horton, PJ Irvin (4 star), Shannon Tevaga (not Sonny)
Not to mention washouts like Junior Lemau'u (Rated No. 7 nationally among defensive ends by Max Emfinger … A Max Emfinger six-star selection as defensive end … A Rivals.com four-star selection … Rated the No. 6 strongside defensive end nationally by Rivals.com …), Alex Ghebreselassie(SuperPrep All-American (No. 36 wide receiver) ... SuperPrep's No. 38 prospect in FarWest ... Rated No. 4 wide receiver in West by PacWest Football.com ... All-West selection (No. 59 prospect) by Tom Lemming ... Selected second-team All-State by CalHiSports.com ... A four-star selection by rivals.com ... Rated No. 8 `athlete' nationally and No. 30 prospect in West by rivals.com ...
Or, the OL I mentioned, ranging from 3* to highly coveted 4*'s.
Ya, I "awesomely" was a reach, but not much. A ton of talent, I'd go with that. Some guys that were Great, ya, Drew, Bruce Davis, Verner, Brian Price as Great.
Damn Good: Brown, Harwell, Horton (all-conf 5 yrs NFL), Carter (all-conf), Paulson (10 yrs in NFL)
Those posts caused this diaper dump from y'all. Wow.
