And yet, Durant gets traded to the team he wants each year. So does Harden or Davis. We also have holdouts in FB for more money.
As long as an athlete has other options, they have leverage. If the NBA/NFL can't fix player empowerment with a union contract, college FB/BB has less of an ability to restrict mobility.
