It wasn’t a terribly high bar as he blanked out during his first one, Mitch McConnell style. But curiously, Foster was off to a pretty fair start in that ‘24 debut seemingly winging it …then just hit a wall. Foster the player could
routinely knock back 300 pound defensive lineman, but he got tackled for a big loss that day by words he couldn’t summon up.
There is the notion these media day pressers are relatively rote rituals anyway with little substance, and there’s something to be said for that.
What you are looking for what’s between the lines, something clever, something revealing about what intangibles does this coach possess and what will they draw upon when a game comes down to a critical decision …that may decide a game, seaso , or even a career. How Chris Petersen whacked Oklahoma with that overtime Statue of Liberty play, or Tommy Prothro pulled a mind twisting mid game onside kick on #1 Michigan State in the ‘66 Rose Bowl. Or how Terry Donahue came up with crap against WSU with Troy Aikman on the 6th yard line with only the Rose Bowl, Heisman Trophy and #1 Ranking on the line…(didn’t use a perfect play that worked for him in the 1st half where Aikman faked first and pass to the back of the end zone scoreing on that same goal line.
Foster spoke a lot here but the bottom line was there anything worth listening to
that would instill confidence that something “special” (one of his favorite words)
is gonna happen. Or at maybe those deficient communication skills are beginning to tell, as Foster has lost 3 targeted 4 star recruits to Washington these past weeks. To Jedd Fisch, is is one of the strongest communicators witnessed on these media days.
Let’s see what rises to the top when the games start.
