Timing is everything and from my vantage, he was given ample time and through no fault of anyone, took to long to climb the ladder as you say. I mean should the NCAA grant an extra year of eligibility to anyone from the pre-NIL universe that is still fit enough to play? I bet there's some dudes in their 30s who can still ball. And why stop at one year? Should it be capped at a minimum figure on earnings?

And while I'm not saying that he wouldn't have been a positive addition to the team, anointing him as a top receiver this year with no camp, ability to learn the playbook ahead of time or familiarize himself with his teammates does seem a bit premature. Best case scenario it would have taken him a few games to acclimate, get into shape and learn the offense, and with things starting to move into game prep mode, there would have been limited opportunities for him to work with Nico. Most QBs want a guy on the field that they are on the same page with and it's hard to be on the same page with someone who hasn't yet had a chance to read to the book.
