And let's be honest, players are getting paid wherever they go. And I suspect that UCLA's NIL budget is more likely to see a bump from a JMU win than respectable loss. Recruits are also more likely to remember and think positively about Chesney winning a game in the CFP than being the guy that went there and didn't lose that badly.
As far as playing time goes, while few coaches are willing to offer any sort of guarantees on playing time, NIL salaries will certainly highlight the expectations. If a team is offering a big name player a ton of money to transfer, then the expectation of playing is built into the offer. If a player is not a proven starter, they will likely be facing competition wherever they go and paid accordingly. In short, no program is going to intentionally write big checks to get guys on the roster that they don't foresee playing immediately.
So with everyone getting paid what they ae going to get paid and the expectation of playing time being built into those payments, players can afford to consider other things like the coach's track record for developing talent and the prospect of playing in meaningful post season games.
