Morgan seems to be getting all the attention. And, he did have a very nice game.

Last week, I said should try to get the ball to Rowe, by any means possible. We went to him early this past weekend, and he was good. However, he had another drop downfield of a very catchable ball. A play that should have been a big gainer.

And, on the flipside, Morgan looks to be just about as dynamic as Rowe. Without the drops (at least that I've noticed).

Another thing with Rowe, by the 2nd half, SDSU was playing wayyyy up on him, so those lateral throws out to him on the sideline were extinguished.

I'd still like to see us do extra things to get him the ball. Like, bubble screens, or just finding ways to hand him the ball.

Morgan is getting all the love today. Comparing their stats:

Morgan 6 catches, 73 yards, 12.2 ypc
Rowe 5 caches, 63 yards, 12.6 ypc

If Rowe doesn't drop an easy catch, he's got the same # of catches and prolly more yards. But .... he did.

We've got two fairly explosive players.

From what I could tell, SDSU pretty much ignored the threat of any pass that would take any time to develop. If every team we play is pressing up on our receivers, and crowding the box, that's going to be a problem. We saw last season the difference it makes when the opposition doesn't know your tendencies, has no tape, and when they do.

We really struggle to get the ball down the field. Is it Nico? Is it mediocre pass blocking? Probably both. But, if that's not fixed, it's going to be a long season. Combine that with our inability to throw over the middle - No D1 TE's, Nico's Kent Tekulve arm angle - and we've got pretty big problems.

Not that this is the solution, but, if teams are going to push up on us, I'd like to see us attempt a flea flicker. I believe I've read that Rowe has thrown a couple of TD passes in his career.

I hope Matthews isn't out long. I don't know if it contributed to his injury, but an SDSU player hit him several yards OB on that play.
