Nico has been pretty up and down so far this year in the new scheme with a fair amount of WR injuries, and no TE who's really a threat, but he's also leaving a lot of plays out there which we will need as the schedule toughens up.
These are the 3 areas where there is a lot of room for improvement.
1) He is sometimes making the wrong throw, throwing into coverage when there's someone else more open. I think this is just not enough reps with the various plays to know where every WR can/will be vs what the defense ends up being, and experience and repetitions in the scheme should help.
2) He's still seeing ghosts in the pocket, and looking to run too soon many times. This ties a bit into the above and not instinctively knowing where all of his options will be and also getting more trust in the OL after how bad the OL was where he was running for his life most plays last year - some bad habits came out of that bad OL.
3) Red Zone Picks. Cal everyone was covered and he forced the throw, SDSU he just didn't get anywhere near enough on the throw. Experience will help, but both were massive issues.
4) each game this year, he has had 2 balls batted down at the LoS- killing drives, which shouldn't happen with a 6'5 QB, BUT, this is also on the OL and coaching the OL to pull the DL arms down when they see them start to go up.
5) Get that man a tear away undershirt! He's been dragged down a couple of times from behind by his white undershirt, tuck it in, or get a tear-away.
But, overall, Nico has been decent. His numbers would be a lot better save for the drops we've had in each game - Rowe's drop on a crosser last week cost us what could have been a 50+ yard catch and run TD.
