Nico was not playing well, and giving the ball away too much. So, how much worse can TD do? It felt like Nico hit rock bottom vs. Oregon.
UCLA has a dominant running game with a healthy OL and three healthy RB's. We have two road games left, and both could easily be in weather that benefits the better running team.
TD can run, and his body looks better-suited to taking hits than Nico's.
If he gets hurt or falters, we have Madden, who is probably close to the level of TD, just greener and less mobile. So not all our eggs are in one basket.
I think Cal Poly was just a terrible team last year.
On the worrisome side, 9 is a lot of INT's, and the word out of fall camp was that Madden won the QB2 job initially because he simply made less mistakes/INT's.
But this is a weird situation, because the guy appears to have the physical tools. I know he signed with Pitt out of high school, so people saw the talent. I hope he was just a kid who transferred to the FCS so he could see the field and be closer to home.
TD actually graded pretty well vs. Oregon, the one big miss being the too-early pass to Rowe that would have iced the game. If that pass had been completed I'd say his performance was actually outstanding. Maybe he just needs more practice.
The schedule is manageable.
I admit a lot of this is just best-case scenario wish casting, but I'm still hopeful we can win 10 games, even though 8-9 is much more likely now.
