While we're at it. since Republicans want "strings attached" to federal aid to California let's look at how much federal aid has been allocated the last 5 years shall we? Per the Carnegie Endowments for International Peace database we can see how many applications were filed for federal help with FEMA and IHP, the 2 largest sources of federal disaster relief.

LEt's do 2015-2024 so we're covering part Obama, Trump, and Biden terms, 10 years total. Over that time the amount of claims for those 2 groups for federal disaster aid for fires is.... 1%. The percent of the total claims for hurricanes over the same 10 years is... 83 percent. So why exactly are Republicans blaming California when clearly the overwhelming majority of the claims are NOT from California or Fires but from Florida, Louisiana, North Carolina etc and hurricanes?

But Russ that's not fair, Hurricanes are impossible to predict and there's nothing you can do when one hits, act of god. Wait you guys said god was punishing California, so why is a hurricane an act of god?

They also like to point out insurance companies fleeing California, guess where else they're fleeing, Florida, Texas, Louisiana etc
