Thanks for sharing that. One thing that concerns me a lot is the meaning of the last 4 words in the article: "the age of Trump." Many in the U.S. believe that Europeans will think they can just hang on for 3 years and 11 more months, and Trump will be gone and the diplomatic (and economic and maybe military) world can go back to "normal." I think any such belief here is short-sighted. Europeans are smart enough to understand that Trump could be succeeded in the White House by another Trump. Or, maybe we have a return to sanity by electing a good president, which might give a false sense of normalcy, as that good president could easily be followed by another insane person (i.e. Trump sycophant) who will return the U.S. to Trump-like policies.

The reality is that Europe, NATO, SEATO, et al, will likely never again feel completely safe relying on U.S. leadership and protection, because everything can change here every 4 years. The world will look and function in a way fundamentally very different, from now on.
