"Trump issues threat of sanctions against Russia"
The article itself was very brief and lacked details. But the headline triggered some thoughts, as follows:
1. Don't we already have sanctions against Russia, imposed years ago when they invaded Ukraine? Does Trump even know that?
2. Why would Trump publicly posture against Russia? Perhaps he is pretending to be tough... perhaps he thinks he can fool some people into thinking that he is standing up to Russia?
I suspect that Trump simply got carried away in a cavalcade of threats. He's simply threatening almost every country in sight. He loves sanctions for the same reason that he loves tariffs - because they cause the affected parties to come to him begging for relief. Trump loves to make them grovel. Even more, in many cases I suspect he is grafting concessions for his own benefit (financial as well as psychological).
Simply put, the power of the presidency is like a drug to Donald Trump. He just can't stop being a bully...
