Was on a Webinar last night about moving to New Zealand. There were only 3 of us on the call, 8:30PM, all 3 from California, with 2 Kiwis and a transplanted British guy they are all immigrations specialists.
They started off the call unprompted by telling us how many americans are now asking about moving to NZ since Nov because of the election. Before the election they got about 5 requests a day at their company from US citizens, now they get 250 a day.
While Trump is selling his 5 million dollar citizens gold cards, he's also trying to pass laws making Americans who leave the country either continue to pay US income tax, or pay a one time lump sum fee to leave. It has not passed yet but they say everyone in their industry is aware it's being openly discussed by the Trump admin.
So Trump is taking the Texas approach, make living here so bad that people want to leave, but then he wants to tax them after they've left. In fact part of their "trade negotiations" with NZ is how Trump can get paid when Americans leave for NZ.
