I think this is one of those things we need to be very clear about: People don't take their political positions based on facts. They may change their mind on how to implement their policies more effectively based on facts, but facts themselves don't guide people in what they are going to believe or how they will react to the world around them. That comes from how they feel about things. What rubs them the wrong way, what they aspire to, what they long for, all those intangibles.
Talking to people with facts to change their minds is really a dead end road. It might work with scientists, or academics to some extent, but probably almost never with real people.
We need to build narratives, point at things that they can relate to in real life. Sometimes we need to tell a story. Other times we need to adopt a moral language. We need to phrase things in terms that they can process and appreciate based on what they see around them all day.
That's one of the things that Sanders is such an effective character in our politics.
