I believe the Supreme Court allowed party based gerrymandering in the first place so all's good.
(I remember those wedge districts from way back when I was looking at how Austin's vote was being diluted: exactly through that method.)
BTW: I think when we're back to rebuilding democracy, we need to ditch this "small districts/single representative" model and adopt statewide proportional representation both wrt the House and wrt the electoral college, unless, of course, we're rewriting the constitution. What we have now is positively anti-democratic, and it's at the root of a lot of our problems wrt gerrymandering and corruption. So that's where I stand on that ... but till then happens, gerrymander away, California. One-sided disarmament needs to stop, like decades ago.
