”Is this any way to run a democracy?” Not by the constitution of this country, which expects the house of representatives to represent local pockets of people. However, if the GOP is going to do it, the Dems NEED to do it, to keep pace, or things will only get less democratic.
“Will further empowering the edges get us to the middle?” No
“Will compromise get thrown out the window?” This happened at the start of the Obama administration, by the GOP.
“Will this government of the people, by the people, and for the people perish from this country?” Probably too early to tell, but if it continues as it has under Trump, then yes.
You say there will be no winners, just losers. However, there will be a handful of people who (in their minds at least) become winners. You and I are not among them.
