This is something I thought about but didn't write up because I'd done enough speculation already. Here's how I think a proper leader should have set this whole thing up:

- define ahead of time, the conditions under which you'll fold *as a group*. Say you have 5 demands and you decide that if Republicans meet you on any 2 of them, you'll back out and move the conflict for the remaining items to the next round at the end of January.

- then you negotiate. If they don't want to negotiate with you directly, you designate some moderates who appear likely to cave and let them handle the talks.

- the minute you get the agreement you need, you go to your group and declare objective achieved and *everyone* in the party votes for the cloture. Everyone. As a whole group. That's how you show that you're an actual front with internal discipline and that you're playing at a higher level with purpose, as opposed to this amateur hour bullsh*t.

Schumer needs to go. He has turned the whole party into a joke. To be fair, it didn't take much to get there, so even that's not much of an achievement , if you ask me.
