Venezuela.

Viewed purely through a strategic lens, this is about limiting China’s influence in South America.

China has poured substantial investment into Venezuela. If Chinese long-range artillery or mid-range missile systems were ever stationed there, then in the event of a conflict over Taiwan, those assets could be used to threaten the Panama Canal and jeopardize oil infrastructure across the Caribbean and even southern Texas.
