my friend coached the girls' soccer team. They had a playoff game against a local rich kid school. I went to watch. Support my friend, support the team.
One of the kids came up to me when she'd been subbed out and said "Mr., they're calling us racist names, what can we do?" I thought for a minute and suggested that she respond "you're a racist, there's nothing worse than that."
She got this look in her eyes, like "ya, what the hell?" The suggestion seemed to work, in the moment.
