My kids went to a school that is diverse for this area. One kid's early elementary friend group consisted of a white, an Indian, a Korean, a Brazilian that was half Asian. But, it was majority white, but not by a lot.

Was at a birthday party for an Egyptian kid. Was talking to the mom. It came up that they owned a home in Irvine. I asked why they don't have their kids go to school in Irvine. She responded "We like the diversity here" and gave me a look.

Had very liberal friends who's kids went to school in Irvine. They said "our kids are the only blond kids at the school."

I used to teach at a 95% latino school (probably closer to 100% than 95%). The Asian kids there had a tough go of it. They stuck together. And, they sometimes complained to me about the treatment they received.*

Had a Latino former student drop by - he was there for some other reason, but he dropped by. He lamented the lack of Latino's at UCI.

I think it's probably pretty normal, no matter what your background, to not want to be immersed in a culture that is not your own at college. Some do, some don't, but it's normal.

The guy's terminology "American College Experience" is bad. But, my friend (I'm not using the expression facetiously), you're making a blanket statement about a race. And, do you have any evidence that white applications to UC's have fallen off? Or, other races?
