I think they'll get some support much earlier than that. The world is more or less sorting into alliances now. Iran will have its place in that.
#4: those days are over. US's status as the good guys was already quite iffy outside of Western Europe and maybe the Commonwealth, but not so in the 3rd world (in its original sense), which was made worse with the Iraq war. And now this....
Otoh, the US is now squarely in the Sunni alliance. So there will be some parts of the world, mainly most of the Arabian peninsula nations, where our credibility will rise somewhat.
