The past 25 years since 9-11 have caused me to conclude: There is nothing special about Americans. We aren't that great.
Why is it that our greatness is confined to history books? If we are that great, then we should live it. The present is an product of history. Where is the continuity of our historic greatness? Perhaps we were never that great. Black people have been trying to tell us that. History is a product of mythologization.
