Trump is bragging about cutting funding for food stamps which has pushed millions of Americans into hunger and food insecurity in the last 8 months.

It has nothing to do with drops between 2013 and 2019.

Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" which went into effect in July 2025 has cut SNAP enrollment by 3.5 million as of February 2026. Trump is either counting another 1.5 Americans who have had SNAP denied since February or is inflating his prowess at starving people. Trump added only 181,000 jobs in all of 2025 so this isn't like 2013-2019 when people went off SNAP because they were getting jobs and becoming more prosperous.

We estimate that SNAP participation nationwide fell by more than 3.5 million people (nearly 9 percent) between the law’s July 2025 enactment and February 2026, based on the latest month of data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and data from the Georgia Department of Human Services provided in an open records request. This estimate uses state data for Georgia due to anomalies in USDA data.
