He had a good scam going. All he had to do was to say not to Trump and keep the scam going. He coulda just given him a FIFA literature prize for "The Art of the Deal" or something.
Instead he created a mess that he has no control over at this point. He may have wanted to keep this capitulation hush hush but that only means he doesn't understand Trump. He (= Trump) was going to brag about it one way or another. He just can't not brag about it.
