in this country is a combination of The Power of Positive Thinking and the (I'm going to guess Puritan, but I can't be sure) belief that wealth is an indication of God's approval of you whereas poverty (as well as bad health) is your punishment from God for some moral shortcoming you must have had.
When you put these together, grind them into fine dust and put it into every baby food consumed in this country in the form of ambient cultural indoctrination, what comes out is a nation of individuals who can't even stand the thought of sharing a public transport with one another, let alone shared spaces, fortune or destiny.
And that's how wealth perpetuates its concentration.
