As for health care, Israel has a non-profit national health service. We have for-profit health care. Around 1/3rd of US heathcare spending goes to profits and corporate overhead.
A chunk of that goes to lobbying to make sure we keep for-profit healthcare, the least efficient version.
As to other things, you can thank the extremist billionaires who don't want their money being spent on the "undeserving masses". They have bought a Supreme Court that guarantees that they can use their money to buy politicians who will screw over the middle class and poor every time.
It's very simple. Follow the money.
