Know what you mean about Jazz "covers" - are they really covers cause of all the improvisation.
My Favorite Things retains the melody/hook of a popular song and improvises around it, so that brought it in.
A couple of other jazz covers I really like (but didn't include) are As Time Goes By and Laura, both by Dexter Gordon.
Blues is also a little iffy as a cover, since lots of those songs are almost canonical, like a Beethoven or Mozart piece.
Everyone has done the "Things" but Lightnin's version just slays.
