The more money, assets you have, and the more you have specialized skills that the marketplace needs *right now*, the better you think the economy is.

For most of the people out there who are not fund managers, capital manipulators, or have the highest level of technical skills, the economy has been downgrading from not great to bad to terrible to horrible to damn near post apocalyptic these days.

The first time salary increase you are talking about is merely a minor uptick that will soon be swamped over by other factors and it is in no way where it should be for the masses to begin to have any confidence that things may at some point perhaps get better. All the talk about how well we are doing is from the point of view of a specific stratum of the economy that the suburban professional class would like to believe they belong to.
