Cal States and the UCs have formally articulated their classes meaning that they pre-approve what the community college class will match at each CSU or UC. What classes will transfer will be denoted in the community college course catalog.

Private schools don't pre-approve articulation however if you talk to a counselor on campus, they will know what classes USC will usually accept. What you want to do is have an appointment with a counselor and tell them every college you want to go to including non-CSU/UC and they will figure out a course package that has worked in the past with USC or other private schools.

You have to get the course approved by USC after you've passed your class. I would always do this with a counselor prior to taking a class since they were using past experience not an agreement like the UC/CSU have in place.
