point made ... but still ... do we know every law that's been sitting in the books for the past 100+ years waiting to be revived so that it can f*ck things up for the rest of us unless the congress makes an effort to repeal them specifically? I doubt that there is any office out there in the congress or the state houses that tracks ridiculous laws that ought to be irrelevant by now?

I feel like the default path we have in front of us is not a satisfactory answer either. At some point, we've got to do some spring cleaning on a massive scale if we don't want to create archeological layer after archeological layer of obsolete laws in the legal system. Just basic housekeeping stuff.

Maybe laws need to identify a comprehensive list of what other laws they supercede and those superceded laws need to be removed? I dunno. Something. The current state of affairs seems just wrong.
